This is the first year Eurogamer has hosted a gaming event, me and Ben thought we should take a trip down to the event and check out what the expo had to offer!
As soon as you walk in you would notice Nintendo DS stand on the left had side on the wall, and on the right hand side there is the Call of Duty World at War booth and right in front we have a Little Big Planet section.
At first we just walked around checking out some of the other areas before we sat down to play our first game! Ben Checked out Tomb Raider Underworld, I spotted out of the corner of my eye Mirrors edge on the PlayStation 3, I will admit I was a little unsure if I was going to like this game, but I was clearly wrong, it was something very different, and worked very well, of course this was not the full game it was just a demo, the controls was a little wierd to get used too, but once you picked them up, you very much away jumping and sliding about. The graphics was very clean and crisp while also very bright, there was not much to the sound just grunts and some shooting, but the noise of the expo did overpower the TVs sound though. As i was playing through the demo, I was wondering if this was free roam at first, but there was an objective, which there was nothing to tell you that, so you can feel a little lost at times. Overall the game was amazing, it was something new and fresh very worth picking up when released.
I left Mirrors Edge on search for another big game, and what I found was Street Fighter 4 on the arcade, it has been a long time since the last big Street Fighter update and one was very due, i found the area where SF4 was hiding and queued up, while i was waiting, some player kicking everyones ass, going through one after another and of course attracting some attention from the cameras, I was thinking to myself “hope i do not fight him”, well i was wrong there, i ended up facing him, he was ken and of course i picked Ryu a classic match for sure! The fight started i lost straight out hands down, I’m not the very best with fighting games with an arcade stick i have to admit that, second round i took it a bit more on the safer side, which worked very well, which in turn i won the second round! Coming into the third round i thought i could win this, it came down to the last dragonpunch in the end, i lost….. oh well i gave it my best shot and had lots of fun doing it!
As for the game overall the graphics has improved a massive amount, which will be one of the first things you notice, sound there is not much difference at all, just clearer and a different selection of music, gameplay was fun, though i did not get to try out focus mode, as playing another person you just want to win and not try the new things out. If you was a Street Fighter fan before you will love this, if you haven’t played one before make sure you do this is gonna be a great one!
Here is some gameplay of SF4 in action (By the way this is not me playing)
After alot of looking around I finally found the Gears Of War 2 area, the set up was 8 consoles, in a 4 Vs 4 team deathmatch, 7 people was allowed to play, plus a Epic Rep. I was on the Gears team as was Ben, we was both excited about playing this, even though the game is out next week. The match started and getting used to the controls again was a little wierd, been playing too much Call of Duty 4, The locus took the lead, after a few kills i started to get used to everything chainsawed alot of locus with the crowd watching me behind cheering at the gore flying on to the screen, i also had the first chainsaw battle of the match, with all my luck it was against the Epic Rep, guess what i won that fight! Which didn’t leave him too happy!
Gears of War 2 has had a graphics upgrade that is for sure, some areas you might notice not as much as you think but there has been alot of improvments, the sounds are more or less the same, but the full game should have a full set of new tracks and sound effects, gameplay was just like Gears of War nothing has changed in the multiplayer except for the Shield and the chainsaw battles from what i noticed with the one match i got to play. Gamplay was still ace, have only played a multiplayer match so can’t really comment too much, but you wont be dissappointed thats for sure!
Check back tomorrow for the second part of the Eurogamer expo round up!
